The modem and router both hooked to my computer and wired going through the attic out to the Garage to my mom's computer. Don't even know how that Screensaver box could get checked. Have never even known about this screensaver box until the person that told me about that setting and have had the computer for like 7 years now.
So then, also that locked message has never come up either all these years. Also, thank you very much too for all your help.
Troy Tech Staff Technician 8, posts. From memory there's a Windows Update that changes that box setting, as it's more secure. The idea being that if you go away from your computer for a while and the screensaver starts , then you need to put your password in the box to continue. That way other unathorised people can't access your system. The reason that box comes up is because a password is set on the account. If there's no password, then pressing Enter will let you login. Otherwise it will require the password.
When you turn the computer on, do you need to enter a password before you get to the desktop? That's what I'm trying to explain. In all these years I have never seen anything like that come up on the computer.
I just turn it on and I use it. Have had the computer for over 7 years now. So, no, I have never had to enter in any passwords to use the computer. Give the repairman a call and find out what he did. For this reason, I always give my customers a copy of the job sheet and file one away myself. Down the track, we can easily find out what was done to it previously. It just makes it so much easier, and has actually saved my bacon a few times as well!
Have you had the system working recently, or is this an ongoing problem? And for Ron's comment on putting the modem in standby, he just means disconnect it temporarily from the internet if you're worried about disabling antivirus protection.
Although what I actually meant was disabling the AVG Security Toolbar, not necessarily the realtime protection of the antivirus itself. Posted 17 August - AM. Posted 18 August - AM. Can things like viruses, spyware, all that cause the lockout thing to happen?
The repairman had found spyware on the computer. But since thought he removed it, was surprised the message came back up after he left. But then found that thing with the checkmark that I never knew about. Are there any sort of buttons I may have accidently hit that causes it to become checked? Like for example similar to our tv, on our remote control sometimes if we accidently hit certain buttons can cause our tv to go crazy and not know what you hit so know way to know what to do to get it to stop.
But then if you set a password would be just another thing in life to keep up with. My brother in-law who comes on this site too also ran a bunch of stuff too and found a bunch more spyware and stuff. I just really want to get my computer working properly again. Due to my health, I'm home mostly, and using my computer is one of the things that helps get me through the days with something to do. Another thing I was thinking too, about the password thing, since our Internet is hooked up to my computer and then runs out to my mom's, then if I set a password for my computer, I don't see how that would work right with how we have things setup.
I do have a password for like my email, and sites like this that I go to. But for just using the computer, nope have never had to enter in any passwords to use it. Same as on other computers I've had too before this one. I'm using my mom's at the moment and she doesn't have any passwords to enter on hers either.
To get her email, yes she has a password and same as me for sites she goes to, but just to use the computer, no passwords. When you said AVG, I thought you were talking about the virus protection. Didn't even know there is an AVG toolbar. Thank you too for all you help, Amy. VPN connected? No Flash. VPN disconnected? Flash on.
What is going on? Simple I know, but it happens. I had the same problem and tried every solution until i read Phil Edons comment, my problem was solve. Went to the Tools menu, click manage addons and enabled the adobe flash and problem solve.

Still one site only will not load. Every other site is fine and on other computers this particular site will load just fine… can other browsers settings affect a another browser? Hi Jack, I had the same problem and I tried almost everything. Today I found what was missing. You have to enable shockwave, one click and magic, I can now see You Tube and Hulu.
To make sure the Flash Player add-on is enabled, do the following:. Select Shockwave Flash Object in the list of add-ons. If the status is Enabled, then the Flash Player add-on is enabled. Close the dialog box. If the status is Disabled, select the Enable. Hope this help. I spent 4 hours trying to fix my internet explorer so it would work again with flash player, Downloaded it, uninstalled it, redownloaded, you get the idea.
I followed everything you said to try and It works now! Thank you so so so so so much. I had updated my windows earlier in the evening and it disabled the add-ons. All I had to do was enable the shockwave flash object and everything worked perfect again. Thank you so much for posting! Your instructions for Jack helped me! Thank you so much! Flashplayer still works fine on youtube and also on some other livestream sites, but not on that one certain livestream-site, where it used to work just fine before and where I would love to get back to again.
No one seems to know advice naymore…. Can anybody help me? Thanx a lot already, Anna. Thank you sooooo much Lashune! I have been so ridiculously stressed, thank you again I can now relax and start working on it!
A few hours behind but at least I can get it done now! I was hoping there would be a secondary solution for what happens if Adobe Flash continues to not work even after enabling javascript on IE. How come when I try to install adobe flash player, a screen appears announcing that I have completed the installation.
Once I removed those plugins from Firefox by uninstalling them, Flash worked perfectly. In other posts, they mention the compatability view as a possible solution. I have IE 9 and am using Windows 7.
Next to the compatability view is tracking protection. After weeks of not being able to use javascript or flash, and not being able to see or hear videos on BBC website I managed to solve the problem quite easily. I had installed flash and java 6 times without any luck. I went into tools and simply removed the tick next to ActiveX filtering, which I found out later my 7 year old son had accidentally ticked.
Everything is now working fine. So simple and easy. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, just to mess around with laptop and my sanity….?? Videos from You tube and a few other sites play in all three, but videos from dozens of sites, like metacafe, vimeo Netflix, do not play.

Can anyone help? Thanks Heaps!! Question: I keep getting reminded that I need to upgrade my browser. Type about:config in the address bar. Click the Yes button on the next screen where it say, I accept the risk!
Scroll down to where it says javascript. Right click on javascript. Select Toggle from the pop-up menu. Joined Jun 25, Messages 6. I used to be able to play games on my computer but now I cannot. I keep getting a message to install Flash Player. I have went and read how to uninstall and reinstall and have done this a couple of times but I still keep getting that message. Please help!
DoubleHelix Banned. Joined Dec 9, Messages 24, Do you have any security software running such as firewalls, anti-virus, privacy protections, etc.? Any of these might be blocking flash content.
