This past year has been a heavy one for Ruiz, a self-employed window washer of 27 years. After losing family members — including his son and mother-in-law — and car issues, he hopes hustling for jobs and the hard work ethic his father taught him will bring a brighter outcome in the new year.
With a gear-stuffed bucket, brush and squeegee in hand, Mike Ruiz weaved around pedestrians, hustling to his next job on a hot, stifling day. He spun the bill of his Spurs baseball cap to the back and dunked a brush in soapy water that he sloshed in swirls on the glass. His T-shirt, wet with sweat and suds, clung to his lean frame as he squeegeed away dripping foam to reveal a crystal-clear surface.
Then he repeated the process at the next-door shop of Gilbert Glaster, an artist and entrepreneur. Ruiz, a self-employed window washer for 27 years lost family members — including his son and mother-in-law — in the past year.

It was an accident. Celi was remembered as being 'happy' about his job and had no complaints about it. Despite these claims, nine workers have reportedly made complaints against the company regarding safety hazards.
Some of these complaints have included a worker suffering from chest pains and another who had hurt his back after lifting heavy materials by himself.
A worker had also been hospitalized after falling off a four-story building, according to city records. The company was fined in May by the Buildings Department after inspectors discovered workers were not using equipment that met the manufacturer's standards.
